Hold on, did anyone else notice that a hydroponic indoor farm was just shown to over 100 million people?
Now, after a brief flirtation with the Orioles, who still hold a special place in my heart, I’m an average DC sports fan. That just means that while I’m generally less excited about sports than any other fandom, I still moan about the Redskins and think Gortat should have been on the all-star team. In brief, I didn’t particularly care about this year’s superbowl.
But I was hyped about one commercial in particular. Sarah Silverman had a bit in a T Mobile commercial where she bragged to Chelsea Handler about her cellphone reception in her hydroponic kale garden. That’s huge.
I’ve been heavily involved in researching vertical farming for a few years now and I have to say, the ag-tech world has never gotten this much mainstream spotlight. It is a signal that agriculture doesn’t have to be riding a tractor through a corn field in Iowa (probably doused in pesticides), that it can be something…cooler. Exposure leads to implementation and I think those of you working towards fundraising for different commercial ventures are going to find VCs more and more interested.
